THE community safety branch (CSB) is a busy department run by States of Jersey Police, and one which deals with ‘grass roots’ policing at community level.
The main feature of CSB is a pool of community officers who are assigned to different parts of the Island. There are officers for the east of the Island, the West, the central parishes and St Helier.
By using community officers out in the community, States of Jersey Police hope to respond to problems as they happen. Past experience has shown that a community officer builds good relationships with the community they serve, and as people come to know and trust the community officer they will approach them about problems such as vandalism or any trouble in the area.
The presence of a community officer in an area can also help deter criminals as they know that their behaviour will be monitored.
Last year, States of Jersey Police took the step of issuing community officers with a mobile phone number, these numbers are available from the force control room or the community safety branch.
These numbers can be obtained by calling our main number (01534) 612612.
