The Community Safety Branch

THE community safety branch (CSB) has several sections and the Dog Unit is one of these.

Dogs

The dogs section consists of two handlers who carry both a General Purpose Dog and a specialist dog. The General Purpose dog can assist with incidents of public disorder and for tracking offenders who escape from recently committed crime scenes. The specialist dogs provide the skills to sniff out drugs and firearms.

Training is intense for these officers and the recent use to deter and effectively deal with serious public, during the World Cup Policing, exposed the demanding role that they fulfil.

In addition, the specialist dogs have proved hugely effective in the ongoing fight to disrupt the distribution of drugs on the Island.
