Drug Squad

The States of Jersey Police Drugs Squad continues to target major drugs dealers involved in the supply of illegal drugs in Jersey. Whether residing on the Island or in other jurisdictions, if the focus of such criminal intent is to profit from the sale of illicit drugs in Jersey then the scope of investigative work has no frontier. The Island is seen as a lucrative market because of the high prices that drugs command, compared to UK prices.

The last few years have been particularly successful for the Drugs Squad in terms of drugs suppliers arrested and the volume of drugs seized. However, criminal drugs cartels based in major UK cities see Jersey as a small but lucrative market and continue to feed commercial quantities of drugs into the Island irrespective of losses within their distribution syndicates. Arresting someone who is known to be organising the regular importation of commercial quantities of drugs has a greater impact than the seizure of one such shipment.

The “mules” who bring drugs into the Island are often those at the bottom end of the criminal economy.   It remains the strategy of the States Police to target the ‘executives’ of the criminal organisations who seek to become rich through this illegal trade.

Targeting suspected drug traffickers and the subsequent seizure of drugs represents only a part of the work carried out within the department. The diligent and thorough investigation of offences leading to the successful prosecution of offenders is an integral part of the process. The process of investigation from target identification to the successful prosecution of offenders often spans many months and often targets arrested one year will not suffer the consequences of their actions until the next.

The Drugs Squad works closely with Jersey Customs in order to challenge criminals concerned with drugs.

If you have any information about drug supply and distribution in Jersey, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
