Thursday 4 June 2009
RELEASED AT 18:05 pm on THURSDAY 4 JUNE 2009
THE States of Jersey Police can confirm that they attended a request for assistance today (Thursday 4 June) from a member of staff at Grainville School who had concern about a firearm being carried by a man in the general area of the school. This call was received just before 12:30 pm today.
The States of Jersey Police responded immediately, with a response that included both armed and unarmed officers.
Following enquiries, at 15:44 pm, a man aged 24 was arrested at his home address after being identified by a member of the public. The firearm was found to be a replica, but was realistic looking. The man is currently in custody at Police Headquarters helping Police with their enquiries. No charges have been brought.
A/Ch Insp Chris Beechey said: ‘The prime concern of the States of Jersey Police is to minimise risk and harm to members of the public. A response was carried out in line with this aim. No one came to harm during this incident, and we received help from the public in identifying a man who is now helping us with enquiries.
‘The States of Jersey Police would like to thank any members of the public affected by this incident for their help, co-operation and patience.’
