Two charged following recovery of cocaine worth £200,000

friday 26 June 2009

DRUGS ARRESTS and CHARGES

The States of Jersey Police maintained their campaign against the trafficking of illegal drugs yesterday with the co-ordinated arrests of four men in different parts of the island and the detention of two vehicles which had recently been imported to Jersey. This was part of an ongoing intelligence led investigation into the syndicated and organised trafficking of class A drugs into Jersey.

As a result of the search of one of the vehicles detained, a commercial quantity of approximately 2.5 kilos of the class A drug cocaine with a street value of approximately £200,000.00, was recovered from within a deep concealment.  Two people have now been released from police custody pending further enquiries, whilst the following have both been charged with being concerned with the importation of cocaine:

  • Mark William HUTCHISON (28), a visitor to the Island, born in Lanark, Scotland

  • William John Menzies PRENTICE (35), a local resident, of Le Mont Pinel, St Saviour, born in Glasgow

The two men have been remanded in custody and will appear at the Magistrate's Court on Monday 29th June at 10 am.

States of Jersey Police remain committed to targeting the principals engaged in illicit drug trafficking into the Island and would encourage anyone with information on such activity to come forward or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
