RELEASED TO MEDIA AT 9:45 AM ON WEDNESDAY 25 NOVEMBER 2009
THE States of Jersey Police are urging motorists to help them put a stop to a spate of thefts from cars, by not leaving valuables in their cars following a further spate of thefts from parked cars on Tuesday 23, and Wednesday 24 November.
Many of the cars in the latest spate of thefts and malicious damage were targeted over night between 23 and 24 November and were parked in various locations in the Island including Upper Midvale Road, Rue de Haut in St Lawrence, Duhamel Place, Old Trinity Hill, Richmond Road, Tower Road, Highlands Lane and Bagatelle Lane.
In the last three weeks, 29 incidents of theft from cars has been reported to the Police, and items such as handbags, purses, Ipods and laptop computers have been taken.
Windows of cars have been smashed in order to gain access to them.
Police are appealing for anyone who sees suspicious activity around parked cars to get in touch with them, on 612612, and to report thefts or malicious damage to vehicles as soon as it is discovered in order that enquiries can be made.
Information may also be given anonymously on 0800 555 111.
