Response to BBC regarding historical abuse enquiry

Statement for BBC Jersey regarding comments made by ex staff members from Operation Rectangle.

‘The views expressed by Mr Harper and Mr Gradwell reflect their own personal views in relation to matters surrounding the historical abuse enquiry.

I think it is important that we do not lose sight of what the enquiry is about, and that is about the alleged abuse suffered by individuals who were at some time in the Jersey care system.

Our task remains to investigate thoroughly and to a proper conclusion, all the outstanding allegations.

Only when these enquiries are conducted and the enquiries being conducted by Wiltshire Police have been completed, would it be appropriate to comment further in detail.

In the meantime, continued and sometimes inaccurate reporting of events only serves to undermine the reputation of the states of Jersey Police, and tarnish the reputation of the Island.’
